Prep: Find common household items, snacks, or little prizes. You need two of everything.
How to Play: Hide pairs of matching items under non-see-through (or chanukah styled) cups. Mix them up. Players take turns flipping two cups to find a match.
Upgrade for Older Kids/Adults: Instead of exact matches, pair complementary items (e.g., candles and matches; a shoe and a matching sock; two items that relate to a family joke or story). This adds a layer of difficulty and personalization.
2. Close-Up Challenge
The ultimate low-prep photo scavenger hunt.
Prep: Take several extremely zoomed-in photos of random spots around your home (e.g., a doorknob, a piece of art, a floor tile).
How to Play: Display the photos one by one. Players guess where in the house each photo was taken.
3. Favorite Things Dreidel Party
A gift exchange where everyone actually gets things they want. Great for a casual friends' night, or a mom group.
Prep: Set a price limit (e.g., 20 shekel). Everyone brings three of the same current favorite item.
How to Play: Each person presents their item and explains why they are obsessed with it (a hand cream they can't live without, the perfect kitchen gadget, a candle that actually smells good). Everyone takes a turn spinning a dreidel. For every gimmel, that person immediately gets to choose one item. Continue spinning through the group until everyone has chosen their three favorite items.
Everyone leaves with three new treasures and great recommendations for easy self-care or home essentials.
4. His & Hers
The most hilarious game you’ll play. It’s all about how men and women solve the same problem... differently.
Prep: Each couple brings two items that serve the same purpose: the "Male" version and the "Female" version. Wrap one, leave the other visible.
How to Play: Players pick an unwrapped item and have to guess what the hidden counterpart is. The reveals are always the highlight of the night. The person who guesses gets to keep both items.
Examples:
Hanger vs. Chair (Both hold coats).
Table vs. Mousetrap (Immediate reaction to seeing a mouse).
Coaster vs. The Bare Table (Where the hot coffee cup goes).
Face Serum vs. Bar of Soap (Nighttime skincare routine).
Salad Spinner vs. Grill Tongs (Making dinner.)
Detailed Shopping List vs. Cell Phone (Grocery shopping: She brings a list; he calls her from the aisle asking what to buy.)
Credit Card vs. Credit Card Bill…..
5. Chanukah Sip-O (A.K.A. Drink If...)
The fastest, easiest way to learn fun facts about everyone at the table. It works for all ages!
Prep: Zero. Just make sure everyone has a glass filled with a drink. Juice, water, seltzer, or wine for adults.
How to Play: A designated reader calls out a prompt. If the prompt applies to you, you take one sip of your drink. The first person to empty their glass wins..
Sample Prompts:
"Sip if you've eaten more than 3 donuts this week."
"Sip if you've put your Menorah outside.”
"Sip if you can speak fluent Hebrew."
6. Head Shoulders Knees Toes Dreidels
A fast-paced, physical version of musical chairs.
Prep: Place one less dreidel than the number of players in a line in the center.
How to Play: The leader calls out body parts to touch (Head, Shoulders, Knees, Toes). When the leader yells DREIDEL!, everyone grabs a dreidel. The player left without one is out. Remove one dreidel each round, until there is one winner left.
7. What's On Your Phone? (The Accusation Game)
A high-energy, digital scavenger hunt to find out who is most - or least! - organized on their device. Great for groups of friends or workmates!
Prep: Divide the group into two teams. Prepare a list of challenges (see ideas below).
How to Play: Teams take turns. On your turn, choose a player from the opposing team and make an accusation based on your list (e.g., "Sarah has more than 10 unread emails.").
Scoring:
The accused player shows their phone to prove the status.
Accusation is Correct: Your team gains the specified number of points, and the opposing team loses that number.
Accusation is Incorrect: Your team loses the points, and the opposing team gains them.
Goal: The team with the highest score wins.
Which of these games will you be trying this year?
