The City of North Charleston’s Cultural Arts Department invites adults to participate in Creative Arts Workshops held on the fourth Saturday of each month from 10:00am-12:00pm at The Olde Village Community Building in the Olde Village area of North Charleston (4820 Jenkins Avenue). Each interactive workshop is led by a different local artist and provides participants with a unique opportunity to learn new techniques in a relaxed atmosphere. Varying skill levels are welcome and the cost is $15, which includes most materials. Registrations are accepted one month in advance and close 2 days prior to the workshop. Space is limited. January 24, 2015 ● Beginners’ Acrylic with Deborah Meyer ● Adult students will learn the basics of acrylic, including color mixing and application techniques, in this introductory painting workshop. The workshop will be led by local artist Deborah Meyer, known for her rich and colorful skyskapes and landscapes.
February 28, 2015 ● Paper Marbling Over Lino Prints with Alexandra Roberts ● This workshop for adults features marbling and printmaking techniques with the City’s 2014/15 Artist-in-Residence, Alexandra Roberts. Participants will cut simple designs into linoleum blocks, which they will print on multiple sheets of paper. After creating their prints, a marbling technique will be applied over the lino print to create colorful patterns throughout.
March 28, 2015 ● Drawing Portraiture with Stephen Herchak ● Participants will learn the fundamental lessons of drawing and applying the universal principals of perspective and proportions to portraiture using a live model with Stephen Herchak. Herchak is Charleston native, artist, art instructor, and tour guide. Realistic in style, his artwork focuses on local subjects and historic themes.
